Stree 2 Review: A Double Dose of Horror and Comedy

One of the most popular Bollywood films in the horror-comedy genre, Stree was known for its great jokes combined with a touch of fear. Stree 2, the sequel, offers a double dose of horror and comedy. In this article, I will provide a synopsis of Stree 2 and review the movie.

Stree 2 Story:

Stree 2 picks up right where Stree ended. Vicky (Rajkumar Rao), Bittu (Aparshakti Khurana), and Rudra Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi) continue living with the villagers in Chanderi. Discussions about the infamous Stree are ongoing, but people no longer live in fear. Her tale has become the subject of fairs and street plays, while children play games invoking her name to scare each other. However, after a mysterious explosion in the forest, someone returns to Chanderi, threatening to bring terror back to the village.

Gradually, the girls in Chanderi begin to disappear, though it seems no one notices that they aren’t leaving voluntarily. The culprit is a demon named “Sarkata.” Meanwhile, Vicky’s cool dad (Atul Srivastava) is more worried about his son’s loneliness than the village’s safety. Vicky remains obsessed with the nameless girl (Shraddha Kapoor) who once saved Chanderi from Stree and longs for her return. Amidst all this, Sarkata Bhoot kidnaps Bittu’s girlfriend, Chitti. During their search, Vicky spots someone in a dark alley—it’s the mysterious girl (Shraddha Kapoor) who has returned to help Vicky once again. Now, Vicky and his friends must unite to face the Sarkata Bhoot together.

Stree 2 Review:

Directed by Amar Kaushik, who also helmed the original Stree in 2018, Stree 2 successfully captures all the elements that made the first film a blockbuster hit. From the eerie settings in Chanderi village to the ghostly atmosphere, the movie checks every box for a horror film while keeping the comedy that made Stree special. One thing is certain—you won’t get bored at any point. The mix of horror and comedy keeps you simultaneously scared and amused. The characters remain as entertaining as they were in the first film. From the opening scene, the director transports you back to the world of Chanderi which fans have been waiting to revisit for six long years.

Halfway through the movie, you’ll either find yourself laughing out loud or feeling spooked by Sarkata. The anticipation of Sarkata’s next appearance keeps the audience on edge. The chemistry between Vicky and his friends is delightful, and the callbacks to the previous movie only enhance the fun. The comedy adds a fresh twist to this horror movie. However, after the interval, the story’s pace slows down. But don’t worry—cameos by Akshay Kumar and Varun Dhawan will definitely lift your spirits. Despite some flaws, Stree 2 delivers a satisfying blend of laughter and horror.

Stree 2 Actors’ Performance:

When it comes to performances, no one can portray Vicky like Rajkumar Rao. It’s hard to imagine anyone else playing Chanderi’s saviour, Vicky. Rajkumar Rao recreates the same magic he did six years ago in Stree. Shraddha Kapoor shines as the mysterious girl, with her chemistry with Vicky portrayed convincingly. Pankaj Tripathi, a seasoned actor, delivers once again as Rudra Bhaiya, making you laugh with every line. Abhishek Banerjee as Jana and Aparshakti Khurana as Bittu also fit their roles perfectly.

Additionally, Atul Srivastava, Akash Dabhade, Mushtaq Khan, Sunita Rajwar, and the rest of the supporting cast performed admirably. Stree 2 also features some fantastic cameos that will surprise and delight you. The VFX is well-executed and complements the movie’s theme. The songs are catchy and enjoyable. Overall, Stree 2 is a thrilling mix of fear and fun, making it a must-watch.
