Bloody Ishq Review: Avika Gor Shines in Horror Flick

There is no doubt that horror movies in India still have their fan base. Being a fan of horror movies, I was very excited to watch the movie written by Mahesh Bhatt and directed by Vikram Bhatt, ‘Bloody Ishq.’ The film was released on 26th July 2024 on Disney+ Hotstar. I was also excited because it stars Avika Gor, who has been my favourite actress since ‘Ekkadiki Pothavu Chinnavada,’ and she still is.

So, I am writing this review as a fan of Avika and Vikram Bhatt, which may seem like an admirer praising their favourite actor/writer, but I tried my best not to be a ‘Godi Reviewer’ 😀. Okay, let’s first start with the plot of ‘Bloody Ishq,’ followed by the review and conclusion.

Bloody Ishq Story:

Bloody Ishq

Neha (Avika Gor) accidentally falls into the water, causing her to lose her memory. When she wakes up in the hospital, she finds her husband Romesh (Vardhan Puri) nearby. He takes her to their mansion on an exclusive private island near Scotland’s coast. Neha tries hard to regain her memory. Meanwhile, she feels the presence of someone else in their mansion. She gets scared and sometimes confused because of the strange incidents that happen in the mansion.

Then Neha’s friend Ayesha visits her and tells her that Romesh is not the person he pretends to be. She also warns Neha that the mansion is haunted and her life is in danger. The incidents that took place in the mansion support Ayesha’s words. Neha asks her husband about this, but he completely denies the claim of a haunted mansion and tells Neha that her friend Ayesha is jealous because Neha has a rich life which Ayesha can’t have.

Bloody Ishq

Neha gets confused as to whom she should believe: the incidents taking place in front of her or her husband who completely denies the facts. As the story continues, Neha finds out that the house is haunted. Now Neha doubts her husband and is sure that he is hiding something from her. So she decides to find out all the “why’s” and “who’s,” which indeed shocks her. What is the real truth behind Neha’s accident and the spirit haunting her mansion is the main plot twist of the movie, which you have to find out by watching ‘Bloody Ishq’ on Disney+ Hotstar.

Bloody Ishq Review:

Direction and Writing:

The story of ‘Bloody Ishq’ by Mahesh Bhatt and Suhrita Das has no surprising twists and turns. Most of the time, you can guess what is going to happen in each scene. Eerie voices and air flowing near the ears are not new to a Mahesh Bhatt movie lover like me. The excessive use of CGI detracts from the story, making it less appealing.

Bloody Ishq

The lead character, Neha, gets psychologically manipulated by other characters in the movie. However, the ghost showing its existence by calling names, making sounds, and playing the piano is not surprising as it’s the same in all Mahesh Bhatt movies. Mahesh Bhatt and Suhrita Das tried to give a new and interesting story, but I feel like they couldn’t make it.

Bloody Ishq: Actors’ Performance:

Now, I may seem biased because I enjoyed Neha’s performance (Avika Gor). She acted as if she were perplexed and had lost her memories. Romesh (Vardhan Puri)’s character lacks screen time, making his role seem like a guest appearance in this movie. The other character actors performed as per the script, which is okay—they tried their best.

Bloody Ishq Analysis:

Bloody Ishq

Some scenes in the movie are a little cringy, whether it is the flashback scene that uses CGI or the paranormal investigators testing the presence of a ghost in the mansion. Some of the characters are not fully developed, for example, the police officer who gives Neha information about Romesh’s father’s accident. Some steamy romance scenes are just included to keep the audience hooked. In conclusion, if you are a fan of Avika Gor and want to watch her acting, this movie is for you. If you are looking for a good horror movie, I am afraid you will be disappointed with ‘Bloody Ishq.’ In fact, what made it ‘Bloody Ishq’ is a question.
